London, June 26 : Argentina and Nigeria both advanced to the last 16 of the World Cup despite Lionel Messi guiding his side to a 3-2 victory over the African side in their final group match.
Messi scored twice to guide Argentina to victory in their final group match that saw Alejandro Sabella ‘s side finishing top of their group.
According to the BBC, Messi scored a goal in the third minute that was equalised within 80 seconds by Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa.
Messi scored again before halftime to provide Argentina with the lead, but Musa grabbed his second goal after play resumed.
Marcos Rojo provided Argentina’s winner in the 50th minute as he knocked in a corner with a knee.
The result means that Nigeria would face France in the last 16 in Brasilia next Monday, while Argentina would take on Switzerland a day later in Sao Paulo, the report added.
