Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Monday has made it clear that the party is aiming to win clear majority in the next Assembly elections in Jharkhand on its own.
Saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the BJP campaign in the state, Shah said, BJP will form the next government in Jharkhand with a clear majority. Shah was addressing a rally at Prabhat Tara ground in Ranchi.
“Forget about the chief ministerial candidate but think only about getting a clear majority. The poll will be fought under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will later nominate the leader,” Shah said. Setting a target of around 70 of the 81 seats in the state Assembly, he said, “Work on the Modi mantra and just show the performance of Modi government in 100 days to the state’s people.”
Targeting the Hemant Soren government, he said, “There is no law and order in Jharkhand due to a paralysed government. Everything is in chaos. How do you expect these people to develop Jharkhand as a leading state when they are busy filling their pockets? Ministers and politicians of the ruling alliance are themselves allegedly involved in heinous crime.”
Praising the work done by the Narendra Modi government in 100 days, Shah said, “From foreign policy, border security and other issues, within 100 days of the NDA government coming to power, strong initiatives have been taken. The GDP has started showing signs of recovery after many years and price of petrol is declining”. Referring to inflation he hoped that it will also decrease soon.
Shah’s visit to Jharkhand is considered significant, considering that ahead of the Assembly elections slated to be held this year, BJP is trying to reduce its dependence on regional parties, with an aim to form the government on its own. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 12 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand. If Lok Sabha election results are any indicator then BJP should be confident about its prospects in the Assembly polls too.
Meanwhile, Shah’s visit has clearly motivated the party workers in Ranchi. “Shah’s visit has ignited the enthusiasm of party workers. We are making preparations for Assembly elections for the last several months. Workers are busy strengthening the party at booth level. Several Union ministers and national leaders have visited the state recently,” said a BJP leader.
“Formation of government in Haryana, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra will be our next achievement,” he added. These states are to go to polls this year and BJP is hopeful that it will come out victorious everywhere.
