Chhattisgarh governor submits his resignation to president


Chhattisgarh governor Shekhar Dutt resigned on Thursday and he submitted his resignation letter to president Pranab Mukherjee last night in New Delhi. Dutt has taken charge as a governor in January 2010. Narendra Modi government was planning to remove all the governors  who was appointed by congress.

Government sources said that Nagaland governor Dr. Ashwini kumar could be asked to resign. He was former CBI chief and was believed to be close to the Gandhi family. Sources added that Governor of Gujarat Kamla Beniwal, who was another Congress appointee may be removed. Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha is the front runner for the post.

Earlier this week U.P governor Banwari lal joshi had tendered his resignation. Sources said that governors who were appointed by congress have to resign from their post,adding that those who refuse to resign could be transferred by government.

Kerala governor, Sheila Dikshit, too was undecided on resigning from her post. Refusing to comment, the former Delhi chief minister had said “i can’t react to rumors.”

Sources said that the center was planning  to remove five governors including Joshi. Other included the governor of Kerala, Punjab, Bengal and M.P.

The step was being taken so that the BJP can give the post to their veteran leaders who could not find a place in the Modi government.
